Chain Restaurant

We knew we wanted to do a review, but we didn’t know where. Suddenly, out of the driver’s-side window we saw something… new.

I had never heard of Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, but Logan instantly recognized it from the thirteenth episode of season five of South Park. So naturally, we had to go in.

We felt the only thing it would be appropriate to order was the Shakey’s Special. It was described as featuring the talents of salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage, seasoned ground beef, mushrooms and black olives. So we had a go for it.

Shakey’s proudly advertises their “thin-crust” pizzas. So I was expecting a delicious thin-crust pizza with just the right about of seasoning. In my mind, thin crust also signifies a leap forward in the quality of the entire pizza. Thin crust pizzas should have more tender, tender loving put into them by the chefs backstage.

However, Shakey’s Special was certainly a disappointment. Not only was the “thin crust” language deceiving, the quality of the toppings was somewhere between “hot pocket” and “cardboard”. The issue with the thin crust is that it was simply less of the regular pizza crust. Thin crust pizzas should not heat up and get those pizza bubble zits in the crust which protrude into the topping and frighten me because I am wary they will explode pizza pus onto me. I don’t want that to happen. At all.

So in conclusion, this pizza is exceptionally average. Do not go to Shakey’s to get the Shakey’s Special. Go to Shakey’s to play the arcade games and get cheap, probably tainted, Chinese-manufactured toys.

So we’re at Shakey’s Pizza Parlor or whatever it calls itself. What do we decide to get? Of course, how could we not get the Shakey’s Special. Let’s be honest with ourselves for a second here: a pizza with sausage, mushroom, pepperoni, cheese, and “ground beef” is not really original.

But was it special? No. It was not. However, it was pretty good. The Shakey’s Original Thin Crust that we had it served on was neither original or thin. It was essentially regular pizza crust. Now again, I liked it.

Considering that I’m a pizza guy, it’s hard to go too wrong with pizza for me. Now that being said, I can be pretty damn critical of pizza. And this pizza was actually pretty legitimate. All the flavors mixed well on its slightly crisped pizza, and the tomato sauce had a fairly fresh flavor.

I liked this one more than most pizzas, and that’s saying something. However, it really wasn’t original, special, or great in any sense of the word in any of its characteristics. The video games did add to the restaurant quite a bit, but not to the food.
