For my first Fries Well submission I thought I would review something I was experienced with. The Mango Chicken Chipotle is a classic circa 2006, one of those sandwiches you keep in your arsenal for when you need some guaranteed good eats. Needless to say, I was not disappointed by Hank’s (official title: Hank’s at the Hook) stellar performance in sandwich artisanship.

Will's Review

Upon entering the Hank’s establishment I felt at ease. I knew what I had come to get: a Mango Chicken Chipotle sandwich coupled with an order of Garlic Fries. Keep in mind that the garlic fries are a separate order, and there are many types to choose from. It’s not any kind of daring menu choice, but I hadn’t set out to be adventurous, I had set out to give an old friend the review it deserved.

As you can see by the picture, this sandwich arrived clean cut, and beautifully arranged. It might not be a comment on flavor per se but I’m impressed by a good display of food, so it was a plus for me. I might also note that I’ve had this sandwich many times over the last couple years, and it’s always good, but it definitely isn’t always constructed with dexterity.

The fries came clean cut and beautiful as always. Topped with garlic and herbs on the top, these fries are quality and they aren’t fuckin’ around. Fry production is not an easy skill to master, I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur. You need the perfect thickness, crunchiness, saltiness, and the perfect seasoning to top it off. These fries perform on all counts. The only negative I would comment on, is occasionally you get too much chopped garlic in a bite, and it’s a little intense, but it’s time to man up because you’re eating some damn good food.

On the topic of the sandwich itself, they certainly outdid themselves. The chipotle sauce was of the perfect consistency and spiciness, and I would like to add that the mango part of the sandwich is actually that it’s a mango chipotle sauce, so don’t worry about finding tropical fruit in your sandwich. You can’t taste it anyway. The chicken is fantastic, they grill it on demand when you order. The crunchy onion ring in the middle adds a perfect texture and delicious “I’m eating an onion ring” element to it. The lettuce and tomato was incredibly fresh, and the cheddar was freshly sliced and possibly from Wisconsin, or wherever they make cheddar well.

I topped it all off with a root beer, which isn’t made by the restaurant but I like their cups and portions so I’m giving them a little credit. Overall, I’d say if you’re willing to take a little hit to the wallet, then the Mango Chicken Chipotle is not gonna disappoint.
