Our first local review. You think that we would kick it off at some hole-in-the-wall with some kick-ass food that knocks our socks off. I did too. Let’s just say that we probably could have picked a better spot for this inaugural event. Actually, I know we could’ve.
I’m a sushi guy. Straight up. I think sushi is excellent. However, it must be done right. When you consider it, sushi is a pretty difficult thing to get done right. It takes careful preparation, the absolute freshest components, and a fair balance of what the roll is made up of. Again, let’s just say that this place didn’t “have the right stuff.”
But, as always, I went in “with an open heart and an empty stomach” and tried to tame the Tiger Roll…
Ichi Teriaki Roll. As it pertains to me you ask? It ends up with a stomach ache and bad memories. Now when you pull up to this location (which is directly next to a Taco Bell) it looks like fast food sushi/grille. Think about it. It’s a bad as it sounds.

Me, before I actually ate any of the Tiger Roll.
I got several rolls at this location, including a Spicy Tuna Roll and a Rainbow Roll. This really could go without saying, but I didn’t really eat either. No, the subject of my review today is the Tiger Roll.
Essentially the Tiger Roll boiled down to deep-fried shrimp with crab and avocado. Oh and there was this fish dealy-bob on top of every roll. Sounds kind of good though right? Wrong. Well, that’s wrong too, it didn’t taste that bad.
However, the texture was not that of normal sushi. It felt like a was chewing this preserved almost plastic in my mouth. There’s not too much of any other way to describe it than by saying just it was like fast food sushi.
Another thing to comment on was the size of the rolls. These things were large. Normally, I wouldn’t be upset about that, but since they weren’t good, their size made them all the more difficult to tangle with. Another focal issue was their temperature. Of course the interior crunchy, deep-fried shrimp were warm, but the fish on top and the rice were disturbingly cold. They were cold in the near freeze-dried sense of the word. Yep, not so good.
In the end, I wouldn’t say that I felt bad when I left the restaurant, but I certainly say that I didn’t feel good. It was later when the awkward, squeamish feeling overcame my digestive system. I didn’t really trust the whole system to begin with and this just validated that feeling. I ended up going to bed on a sick stomach and needless to say, I was upset.
